It’s hard when you see people you care for go through pain. Your heart breaks for them. And though you will never relate or understand the depth of that very pain, it still breaks you. You want to… so bad.

But you can’t..

It’s hard when you see people you care for do stupid things. You wish you could just lift the blindness from their eyes for them. You long for them to understand the love that you have been shown.

But you can’t..

It’s hard when you see people you care for face trials. You ask that you could take the burdens on for them — wish you could carry the load, the weight, the heaviness — lift them free from the immensity and break away the chains that so entangle them.

But you can’t..

It’s hard when you see people you care for struggle with similar questions that you have asked — the resentment, the anger, the loneliness, the deep, deep emptiness. You want to tell them that everything is going to be okay, but at the same time it won’t. You want to make sense of things for them and solve all their issues.

But you can’t..

Yet it is hardest of all to surrender those very circumstances — give over those fears — cast away those worries — push aside the pain for them — it’s hardest of all to trust Him and realize that I can do nothing for them. It’s hardest to simply pray. It’s hardest to simply wait on Him. It’s hardest to simply be there if they should let me in.

But this is all I can do.

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.
